Our visit to Coole Park
On Thursday the 24th of January third and fourth class went on a school tour to Coole Park. When we got there a lady named Hilda showed us around the visitor’s centre. She told us a lot about the history of Coole Park. She also told us about Lady Gregory and her grandchildren. Lady Gregory’s grandchildren names were Ann, Catherine and Richard. Richard spent most of his time at boarding school while Ann and Catherine stayed at Coole. They played a game called find the thimble. They played it with G.B.S- [George Bernard Shaw]. G.B.S cheated all the time and they were very upset when they found out! We also saw a stuffed Whooper swan and other stuffed animals in the centre.
After our tour inside we went outside. We met a man named Gordon D`arcy. He brought us on a nature walk around Coole Park. Ian was in charge of noting down the flora and Aoife was in charge of recording the fauna we spotted along the way! We saw lots of birds and trees. We also saw the famous Autograph tree. All the famous writers who came to Coole signed there name on this tree. We came back on the bus again. All of us had a great day.
