My Sketch of the Statue of Liberty!

I drew a picture of the Statue of Liberty. The Statue of Liberty is a famous piece of art. The Statue of Liberty is originally from France and a famous artist called Alexandre - Gustave Eiffel is maker of the Statue of Liberty. Alexandre - Gustave Eiffel also made the Eiffel tower. The Statue of Liberty is now in New York and there is a smaller version in France. France gave the Statue of Liberty to New York in 1886 as a gift for 100th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence. The Statue of Liberty has seven spikes at the top of the crown. Most people come to New York just to see the statue of Liberty. The statue of Liberty is grate piece of art that I hope I’ll see some day.

Musical Instruments from around the world.

In third class we have been learning about musical instruments from around the world. Here are just a few that we had in class. We looked up pictures of lots more on the internet. We found lots!

The Spoons

These are the spoons. Spoons can be used as musical instruments. Years and years ago when people didn’t have any televisoins they used spoons to play music. Spoons can be used as a percussion instrument. To play the spoons you have use two soup spoons then you bang them off your knee and your fingers.

Castanets
We learned about musical instruments. We learned about the castanets from Spain. Castanets are used in Spanish dancing .Castanets are two pieces of wood and they have a string to keep the castanets together. The castanets are shaped like shells. When you hit them together it makes a clicking sound. It is a percussion instrument.

The Claves

The claves come from the Caribbean sea. They are short, solid wooden sticks that are knocked together to make a sharp ,cracking noise. They where first made in Cuba.
They are in the shape of a cylinder and they are not very heavy. You hold one in your right hand and tilt it slightly.Hold the other in your left hand and tap them together gently. They are smoothe and easy to hold. They are fun to play!

Maracas

Maracas come from South America. They look like large, wooden lollipops and they are filled with beads and make a noise when shaken. They are played by shaking or hitting them on the palm of your hand.

The Bodhran

The bodhran is a percussion instrument.
It is played in Ireland.
You play it with a stick.
You move the stick back and forth.
I think it is fun to play the bodhran.

Art Work

Today we were doing art. We do art every Friday. Today we were making thatched cottages because we are learning about straw at harvest time in Geography. It was really fun. We made the roofs out of straw. Straw is made at harvest time when farmers gather their crops and the wheat is used in food.

Here we are working hard during art class. Everyone made their own.

Harvest Time

We learned about harvest time. In the summer during July or August or even September the farmer has to go out and harvest his crops for fruit, vegetables and wheat. The farmer uses the combine harvester which sprays the wheat out of a tank. The straw can be used for animals or in the past it was used to thatch houses. Written by: Rachael Caulfield

We brought in some straw today to use in our Art work. This was harvested by some local farmers.

Flour comes from wheat to make tasty cakes!

We have been learning lots about food. In Science we have been learning about the Food Pyramid and in Geography we have been learning about Harvest time. At harvest time the farmers cut and gather the crops. The combine harvester seperates the wheat from the straw. This wheat is used to make flour. Some of us use flour in our baking at home. Chloe was busy making cakes for the class with her mum. They were really tasty. Thank you!

Learning about food.

Today I brought in buns for 3 and 4 class. They had white icing and sprinkles.

The recipe to make these buns is: 1 egg, 125g butter,125 flour &1 tea spoon of baking powder,1 table spoon of milk and 125g sugar.mix, get bun cases, over 180c 5/8 mins.Enjoy!

By Chloe Fitzgerald.

I made some scones for my lunch today. One was plain and the other had chocolate chips. I used flour too!

This is a recipe that my mum uses to make scones. I read it to the class.

This is a recipe on how to make buns! I made a poster to show everyone how easy it is. I also showed which food group each ingredient comes from.

PE on Friday

Today we did our PE. We do it every Tuesday and Friday. We played a game like piggy in the middle. But there was three people instead of two people. And we played a big game of soccer. And we did three laps around the football pitch. And we all enjoyed our PE. When we were finshed PE it was big break time. We like our PE.

THE FOOD PYRAMID

We learned about the food pyramid and we learned that you should eat less of the foods at the top of the food pyramid and more of the foods at the bottom. You should eat lots of the bottom which includes potatoes, breads, cereals rice and PASTA.We also learned that it is important to eat a healthy and balenced diet. You should not eat a lot of the foods at the top of the food pyramid. All the foods at the top of the food pyramid have lots of fats and sugars in.

Pasta Pictures

This week in Science we have been learning about the Food Pyramid. The food pyramid is made up of 5 different food types. For our bodies to grow strong and healthy we need to eat the correct amounts from each food group. One of the most important food groups is the carbohydrate and potato group. Pasta is one of the foods in this group. We learned about all the different types of pasta. If you can it is better to have the wholewheat pasta instead of the regular pasta.

Today we made some pictures using pasta. We all came up with different ideas. Take a look at some of us working on some of our pictures.
